Author Interview: V. Casa

• What inspired you to write your latest book?

I was inspired to write Vaieon because I wanted to read a book about a strong woman living among dinosaurs. The idea of the struggles, adventures, and beauty of living in the Cretaceous era was the starting point of the story. From there, I created Lily Vai, the heroine of the trilogy, and gave her this impossible journey of time travel and life in the wild.

• What is your favorite book/genre to read?

I love adventure, romance, and fantasy books. Ironically, Vaieon is not about romance or fantasy.

• What themes do you find yourself returning to in your work?

The book explores themes such as family, love, loss, hope, immortality, the beauty of Earth, its savage nature, and the wisdom of evolution. 

• How do you handle writer’s block?

I write something else that is easier to write to get the ideas flowing and regain my self-confidence as a writer. Even if it isn't publishable work, it is my sandbox to keep writing without struggling as much. 

• What do you hope readers take away from your stories?

I hope they think Vaieon is a story unlike any other, that it opens up new horizons for them, and that they can finally relate to a strong heroine with sound judgment.

• What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a writer?

"A good thing for writer's block is to just commit to writing the absolute worst scene possible and get it out of the way" - Terence Winter

• If you could meet any character from any books, who would it be and why?

Gandalf or Dumbledore!
