• What inspired you to write your latest book?
I thought the song by Kate Hill, "Running Up a Hill," would make a great story.
• What is your favorite book/genre to read?
I love historical fiction, and my current favorite book is "Under the Same Stars" By Libba Bray.
• What themes do you find yourself returning to in your work?
Friendship, Found family, Faith.
• How do you handle writer’s block?
Go back and revise what I've written, and then ask the "what if the character did this?" questions until I'm out of it.
• What do you hope readers take away from your stories?
That tragedies may occur, but there's always hope.
• What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a writer?
Use workshops and other writers to help hone your craft.
• If you could meet any character from your books, who would it be and why?
I'd love to sit down with Mikaila Emery and pick her brain.
