• What inspired you to write your latest book?
I started writing Those That Glow Gold at the beginning of the pandemic. I had written some short fiction before but not a book, and with all the free time on my hands, I decided to take the plunge. Her Most Loyal Servants is its sequel, and it was a beast to write, but it was also so satisfying.
• What is your favorite book/genre to read?
All kinds of books, really. Fantasy and horror (and especially when a story has a little bit of both mixed together), with sci-fi being a close second. Monster-loving romance rounds out the list.
• What themes do you find yourself returning to in your work?
I like to have repeating lines or scenes that change over time. I also like to show scenes from different character perspectives.
• How do you handle writer’s block?
I try to do something new, maybe a new store or location I have never been. Just the change of Just a change of scenery usually helps to break me out of any funk I’m in. If that doesn’t help, then a strong drink helps. I won’t understand what I wrote the next morning, but it gets the creative juices flowing.
• What do you hope readers take away from your stories?
At the end of the day I just hope that people enjoy my work. I doubt I will ever write anything profound or groundbreaking, but I hope that people will enjoy my stories and that they will remember them fondly.
• What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a writer?
It's weird, but the best advice I have ever heard was not following every piece of advice you hear. For example, a writer once said that all authors should write in complete silence. For some people, this would be impossible, and for others, it would be torture. I think it's best to try new things but don't beat yourself up if one author's advice doesn't work for you.
• If you could meet any character from your books, who would it be and why?
Tommy is one of my favorite characters. I would love to spend a night on the town with him.
• Where can readers find your books? Where can they follow you online?
My books are in print and eBook format wherever books are sold. @thosethatglowgold on Instagram is the best place to learn about sales and progress on the newest book in the series.
